Our eyes met…
A love story (sort of ) for parents of tweens and teens.
As my husband and I hiked in peaceful silence on a fall afternoon through farm fields in Yorktown , Virginia , my mind wandered- lost in the rhythm of the trail. I felt a true sense of belonging. The fresh air, the soft sun rays, blue sky – everything was in sync.
Then suddenly my senses sharpened and my mind was jolted back to the moment. I felt it. Our eyes met.
His big brown eyes met my blue. The stillness between us was magical, as if time itself had paused and nothing else around existed.
Standing statue still , the deer stood quietly off my path showing no sign of of aggression, only curiosity. Standing as if on guard, its new antlers showing just above the tall grass line, he was heart stopping!
I didn’t even notice my husband take the photo from behind as I stood there, absorbed in the moment.
Nature has a way of making you feel connected, while offering a sense of belonging. You are never truly alone out there.
Parents of teens and tweens, they may not always express it, but your teens crave your company and the sense of belonging that time in nature can bring. Parents, get outside with your teens.
Whether you’re talking or just enjoying the silence together spend some simple time with your teens. Nature’s peaceful magic creates a space for connection.
Sometimes, the best connection is simply being there—together.
